Annual MEMBERSHIP Meeting
SATURDAY - APRIL 19, 2008
The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Petersburg District USBC Bowling Association, Inc. was held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Express, in Chester, VA. In attendance were twelve (12) members of the Board of Directors, one (1) Association Manager, and eighteen (18) members for a total of thirty-one (31) in attendance.
1. President Jerry Womack called the meeting to order at 9:32 AM and welcomed everyone to the meeting. Jerry explained the purpose of the meeting and stressed the importance of the merger vote which will be taken later in the meeting. Joe Shelton reported the requirement for quorum (12) was met with a total of thirty-one (31) members eligible to vote.
2. Jerry Womack then introduced the current Board of Directors. In addition, he welcomed PDBA past President, Life Member and Hall of Fame member, Ed Tatum, to the meeting.
3. Jerry Womack asked if everyone had taken time to read the minutes of the 2007 Annual Meeting. These minutes had appeared on the web site and copies were distributed in the Annual Meeting Report packet. Jim McDonnell made a motion, seconded by Joe Shelton to accept the minutes as written. Motion approved... Unanimously.
Report of the President Jerry Womack gave the President’s report. He announced USBC will soon be moving their headquarters operations from Greendale, Wisconsin to Arlington, Texas. Located next door to the BPAA (Bowling Proprietors Association of America) a “bowling campus” will evolve for all the national bowling integers. Jerry reported the USBC self-assessment of the local association was no longer required for maintaining the USBC Charter. Jerry stressed the importance of the upcoming merger vote. Previously, the BA and Youth associations had approved a merger, while the WBA did not. At their membership meeting held in March, the local WBA had voted to enter into a merger with the BA and Youth associations.
Report of the Association Manager Mary-Ann Keyes reported a total of 1,341 members in the PD USBC BA, of which, 240 are first year members. This total represents a slight increase over last year’s membership. The forty (40) winter season leagues is a decrease from last year’s forty-five (45). Mary-Ann thanked everyone for their patience while she learned the “BA way” of business. It has been fun and an experience.
COMMITTEE REPORTS Jerry Womack called for committee reports.
AWARDS Jerry Womack reported a sixteen (16) page report of issued USBC and PD USBC BA awards is shown in the Annual Meeting Report packet and he thanked the league secretaries for submitting their applications in a timely manner. Jerry reported the local association was looking into the possibility of awarding rings for scores recently discontinued by USBC.
FINANCE Joe Shelton reported the financial records had been audited as of April 15, 2008 and were found to be correct. Joe also announced the required IRS Form 990 had been filed with the proper authorities for the 2006-2007 fiscal year.
Mary-Ann Keyes reported the Financial Statements were in the meeting packet indicating the following totals, as of April 15, 2008:
General Account $ 14,930.92 Tournament Account $ 4,005.42 TOTAL $ 18,936.34 [ Reports placed on file, subject to audit. ]
HALL OF FAME Margaret Akins reported Floyd Akins, Jr. and Michael “Mike” Cave will be honored with induction into the PD USBC BA Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 4TH. There will be a social hour (6:PM) followed by dinner (7:PM). Tickets will be available at the Local Workshop. It was also announced that plans for a Hall of Fame Tournament was in the early stages. The tournament will help defray the Hall of Fame expenses. More will be announced later...
PIONEER AWARD Margaret Akins reported Christina DiMarco will be the recipient of the 2008 Pioneer Award. This award will be presented during the Hall of Fame ceremonies. Christina has worked for many years to support the PD USBC BA with the publishing of the yearbook. (A real friend to PD USBC BA)
LANE CERTIFICATION & INSPECTION Jerry Womack reported all local bowling centers are currently in compliance with USBC.
NOMINATING Jerry Womack reported the ballots were ready for the upcoming Board elections to be held later in the meeting. He thanked the Nominating Committee for their work.
PUBLICITY Margaret Akins reported she continuously needs scores from league secretaries for publishing in the local newspapers. She commended The Bowling Alley where a posting book was provided for the secretaries to record the high scores each week. Margaret is then able to collect the scores in a timely manner.
RULES Joe Shelton presented for membership approval the following amendment for change to the PD USBC BA Bylaws, to read as follows:
Article V. Section C. Election of Directors Directors are elected by plurality vote by the Board and BA membership present and voting from: 1. A slate provided by the Nominating Committee. 2. Nominations from the floor. Qualifications must be
submitted to the Nominating Committee. Voting will be by ballot if there is more than one nominee. Joe Shelton made a motion for approval, seconded by Gene Womack. Motion approved... by unanimous vote.
TOURNAMENTS
700 Club Scratch Tournament Mary-Ann Keyes reported a total prize fund of $1,037.00 was distributed through the tournament. Thirty-nine (39) bowlers participated in the Regular Division and ten (10) bowlers participated in the Senior Division. Congratulations to John Beasley, Regular Division and Jason Keenan, Senior Division champions.
48th Annual Local Championship Tournament Mary-Ann Keyes reported a total prize fund of $8,240.00 will be distributed today to the team captains. Entries included 55-Teams, 101-Doubles, 202-Singles, 183-Handicap AE, 81-Scratch AE and 59-Senior AE. Alan Woodlief had the tournament high game of 299 and Richard Dagenais rolled the high series of 744. Mary-Ann reported a tie for first place in the Singles Event resulted in a one game play-off to determine the champion.
Jerry Womack thanked Rebecca & Mike Williamson, owners of The Bowling Alley for one of the most enjoyable tournaments and especially for the donations of bowling balls raffled each weekend. Jerry advised that due to a request of some bowlers, lane assignments during doubles/singles will allow the team bowlers to bowl together. A suggestion was made to have a box for requesting as such on the entry form.

YEARBOOK Jerry Womack reported the 2007-2008 yearbook will once again be published. This book along with everyone’s final winter averages contains much information and history of PD USBC BA,
YOUTH ASSOCIATION The Greater Perersburg USBC Youth Council will hold its Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Highlights in Hopewell, VA at 2:00 PM.
ELECTIONS A. Delegate / 2008 USBC Convention - Kansas City, MO. Joe Shelton made a motion, seconded by Margaret Akins to not send a delegate to the convention. Motion approved... by unanimous vote. (It was noted that Association Manager, Mary-Ann Keyes will be attending the convention as a delegate from the local WBA.)
B. Delegate / 2009 USBC Convention - Reno, NV Due to non-interest, Margaret Akins, made a motion, second by Jim McDonnell to table the election of a delegate. Motion approved... by unanimous vote. (It was noted that Association Manager, Mary-Ann Keyes has been elected a delegate to this convention from the local WBA.)
C. Delegates / Virginia State USBC BA 2008 Jamboree & 2009 Annual Meeting A slate of nine (9) people interested in attending the two state meetings during the 2008-2009 season was presented as follows:

From these names the President, with Board of Directors approval, will select those to represent the PD USBC BA. Linda Allred made a motion, seconded by Gene Womack to accept the slate of names. Motion approved... by unanimous vote.
D. Board Elections - 1ST Vice President / 2 Year Term Vince DiMarco made a motion, seconded by Herb Lewis that Floyd Akins, Jr. be elected 1ST Vice President, by acclamation. Motion approved... by unanimous vote.
E. Board Elections - 3RD Vice President / 2 Year Term Linda Allred made a motion, seconded by Neil Wade that Margaret Akins be elected 3RD Vice President by acclamation. Motion approved... by unanimous vote.
F. Board Elections - Directors (5) / 2 Year Term Seven candidates were presented for the five Director positions. Voting results were:

RESOLUTION for MERGER Jerry Womack then read the Resolution for Merger, authorizing the Board of Directors to do all things necessary to become a merged non-profit organization under the charter of the USBC. This merger will include the local men, women and youth bowling organizations. Resolution Approved... by unanimous vote. Jerry advised that a committee from the BA will be appointed to meet along with committees from the WBA and Youth associations to begin the process.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS - None
NEW BUSINESS Mary-Ann Keyes announced the League Officers Workshop will be held in August. Time, date and location to be announced later. Winter league supplies will be distributed and new rules discussed.
DRAWING FOR BOWLING BALL The winner of the bowling ball was Ulysses Jones!
TOURNAMENT PRESENTATION Wade Watkins presented tournament trophies (clocks) to those champions present
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:50 AM.
